About this Series:
The Illuminating Engineering Society of Maine is excited to present our “Get Illuminated” Wine & Lecture Series (Online Edition for the time being…). Please join us for a series of fascinating lectures on a wide variety of lighting-related topics, with the IES[ME] community of members and friends!
About this Event:
Biophilia is understood to be an innate, deep and emotional connection to nature, and green grow-walls are a common design element used to bring a feeling of nature into the interior. Today more than ever we can use biophilia in design to benefit both people and the environment. This growing trend can be seen in architecture, urban planning, and interior design.
Today’s built environments can cause invisible stress. Users may be unaware of the effects that their surroundings can have on their bodies and minds. Green grow walls can be an effective solution to this issue, but they can be incredibly complex to coordinate. This presentation delves into the benefits and challenges of green grow-walls. We will also discuss what aspects lighting designers, architects, engineers and specifiers need to understand and when and how to reach out for help with the design process.
About the Speakers:
Our speakers include Ahu Aydogan, PhD, Assistant Professor at Spitzer School of Architecture, City College of New York, Lynne Petty of PlantWerks in Maine and Lisa Wong, LC, Associate IALD, IES, Associate at LAM Partners in Boston.
We will be drawing two raffle prizes at the beginning of the presentation: a Stay-at-Home Wine Basket from Cellardoor Winery in Maine, and a $50 Amazon Gift card (we will ship them to you!)
